AMI Provides Comments on Research Priorities to USDA ARS Human Nutrition Program

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

(American Meat Institute)

AMI has submitted comments on several research problem statements for proposed research direction posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Human Nutrition Program. The comments recommend research direction and priorities across three different focus areas including:

•           National Nutrition Monitoring:  http://tiny.cc/qke6jw
•           Life Stage Nutrition and Metabolism:  http://tiny.cc/xze6jw
•           Scientific Basis for Dietary Guidance:  http://tiny.cc/g6e6jw

AMI’s comments focused on the need for an accurate and up-to-date food/nutrient database to track progress against public health goals; the need to better assess protein needs throughout the lifecycle to help the fight against obesity and muscle loss; and the  need to leverage expertise across USDA to identify research gaps and execute research that adds to evidence base for Dietary Guidance

The full comments can be viewed under each individual section through the links above.
