FSIS Announces Annual Food Defense Plan Survey

USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will conduct its seventh annual food defense survey beginning July 16. The voluntary survey is designed to gather data about industry’s voluntary adoption of food defense plans. The survey is designed for official meat and poultry slaughter and processing establishments, processed egg product plants, and official import inspection establishments.

FSIS has established an Agency performance goal for 2016 to have at least 90% of all establishments with a functional plan. According to FSIS, 75% of surveyed establishments had a plan in 2011, up from 27% in 2006.
