AMI’s William Westman, has been appointed to the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Animals and Animal Products by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk. Westman was one of 16 members appointed to six agricultural trade advisory committees.
The Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Animals and Animal Products will specifically deal with giving technical support and information on trade in animals and animal products.
The committees, originally created in 1974 by Congress, ensure that U.S. trade policy reflects commercial and economic interests of the U.S. Their responsibilities include providing information and counsel to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and United States Trade Representative (USTR) on the development of U.S. agricultural trade policy.
The new members, which will help broaden the different types of U.S. agricultural experts, will help to ensure that the USDA and USTR continue to provide support to farmers, ranchers and other agricultural businesses so they can continue to export successfully, Vilsack said.
