House Passes Spending Bill Which Includes Funding for E-Verify Program

The House of Representatives has passed a large spending bill that includes $100 million funding for E-Verify through the end of FY09.  The E-Verify program is used widely by the meat industry and many other industries to ensure employee eligibility to work in the U.S.

The Continuing Resolution (CR) ─ as the spending bill is called ─ will fund, but not reauthorize, this important immigration enforcement program.  The program still needs to be reauthorized by Congress, but that could be postponed until next year.
