The House Science Committee last week approved H.R. 875, a bill by Rep.  F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), which would negate existing Environmental Protection Agency waivers allowing ethanol-blended gasoline for motor vehicles containing up to 15 percent ethanol, commonly known as E-15.  Earlier in the week, AMI joined a large coalition is signing a letter in support of the Sensenbrenner bill.  The bill rescinds the federal waivers that allow for the use and sale of E-15 until a full scientific review of the ethanol blend is complete.

Also last week, Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) was joined by Reps. Jim Costa (D-CA), Steve Womack (R-AR), and Peter Welch (D-VT) in introducing a bill that would eliminate the corn based ethanol mandate, reduce the overall requirements of cellulosic ethanol to be consistent with production capabilities and rescind the requirements to blend up to 15 percent ethanol into the fuel supply.  AMI joined with a large coalition of other organizations in signing a letter of support for the bill.
